Dee Thompson of BPCA member company Masterfoods was recently awarded the prize for the best result in the BPC/RSPH Certificate in Pest Control examination for 2005. The award was presented to Dee by the Rt Hon Kevin Barron MP, Chair of the Parliamentary Health Select Committee at the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health AGM, held at the Oval Cricket ground.
Originally employed as a pig farmer, Dee has worked in the industry for 8 years as Operations Quality and Hygiene Technician. She attended the BPCA 8-day General Pest Control modular course in November 2005 and sat the examination at the end of the course.
The 8-day modular course consists of several modules covering the main aspects of pest control; legislation & the safe and effective use of pesticides, commensal rodent control, control & management of other vertebrates, urban bird control, invertebrate pest, hygiene and food safety, and insects and mites of stored and processed food. Delegates can take individual modules or sit the entire course, and there is the opportunity to take the BPC/RSPH Level 2 Certificate in Pest Control examination at the end of the 8 days.
