PestEx, Europe’s largest exhibition for the pest control industry will be open to visitors on the 3 & 4 June 2003 and will once again be held at the National Exhibition Centre, near Birmingham, UK.
As in previous years the exhibition is free for visitors to attend and a programme of seminars will accompany the exhibition. On the 3rd June ‘The Fumigation Revolution’ is the topic of the morning. Major changes continue to affect the fumigation industry and this seminar will address the issues of ISPM 15, adapting to life without methyl bromide, the development of sulphuryl fluoride as a fumigant, and the testing and ventilation of imported containers.
On the Tuesday afternoon, a heated debate is anticipated. ‘There’s More Than One Way to Kill a Rat - Social Responsibility in the Pest Control Industry’ aims to open up the debate between those who are opposed to the use of pesticides and the pest control industry. Can effective control be achieved without using pesticides? Is the use of pesticides a greater danger to public health and the environment than the social, environmental and health implications of not using rodenticides and insecticides? These, and no doubt many other questions will be discussed.
The British Pest Control Association will be launching two new initiatives during the exhibition; the Consumer Code of Practice, which is an industry code backed by the Office of Fair Trading, and the Malaria Relief project. Working with Save the Children, the BPCA aims to provide treated mosquito nets to a village in the Sudan and to assist with local training to ensure that the nets remain an effective method of control. The aim of the project is to highlight the positive, life-saving aspects of using pesticides by contributing to a sustainable project.
The exhibition has a dedicated lounge area served by a catering facility, providing the perfect environment for informal and impromptu business meetings. With pre-registered visitors from over 25 countries and exhibitors from the USA, Hungary, Italy, France, Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands as well as the UK, PestEx is the event in 2003 to network and do business both on a national and international scale.
