Membership of the NPTA
There are still a few people and pest control businesses out there who still believe even 12 years on that the NPTA is solely for Technicians only. How wrong can they be!
Yes we are a professional membership Association dedicated to both Pest Control Servicing businesses and also the Pest Control Technician. We believe in helping and assisting all our members - those who run their own self employed business, those who run the smaller county or regional area businesses and those who have an interest in pest control (be they working for one of the national multi-million pound businesses) or perhaps lecture on the subject or have research to do which includes pests.
The reference to "12 years on" relates to the fact the NPTA was created in June 1993
NPTA Scotland Training Day on 31st March a great success
This year the NPTA held their 8th Scotland Training Day at a new venue, namely at the Grange Manor Hotel in Grangemouth. A record number of 75 delegates attended for the full day but 3 Councils let us down with ordering 8 seats and then NOT turning up! Bad manners we feel.
The whole day this year was sponsored by Killgerm Chemicals Limited of Ossett, West Yorkshire and besides a wealth of speakers included a full 4-course sit down lunch.
Speakers included John Hutchinson Food Safety Associates who underlined to everyone how important HACCP is and will become in the near future for most contract pest control businesses.
Second speaker was George Walker on "Bird Control using Birds of Prey"
Third speaker was David Mills from the "Airgun Training and Education Organisation" (AETO) who brought with him an extensive display of equipment.
Fourth speaker was Dr Alison Blackwell speaking all about the new Midge Eater machine they have developed and bearing in mind how midges in Scotland is a very important matter this subject went down very well.
An opportunity was given to the NPTA Chairman, J. Barrie Sheard, to speak about the new Distance Learning CD ROM material developed by ADAS Consulting along with John R. Jones Associates. Needing distance learning is necessary in a big way in Scotland due to the distances to cover.
An extensive exhibition of Killgerm products was provided by Graham Bingham Killgerm's Sales Executive along with three other colleagues.
Drainage faults and fault finding course
April saw the launch of a brand new one day training course on the subject of drains and sewers and was very well supported. The day was held at NPTA House in Kinoulton and due to the interest shown is being planned for a repeat on October 20th.
Julie Gillies at the office has already started a waiting list so get your name down asap. We shall close the list at 14 delegates. Prices and any joining instructions are all available from Julie Gillies at NPTA House
Squirrels in Domestic Premises
Repeating an old favourite John Lill provided another full day course on this problem area many pest control technicians are coming up against. Supported with many photographs and examples of problems encountered made the day particularly interesting.
