Habitat

Originally a pest of corn or "Indian Meal" in the US, this species has been regularly imported in cargoes to the major ports and warehouses for stored products around the world. Endemic populations continue to survive in food storage facilities in both warm and temperate climates.

Pest Status

The Indian Meal Moth is a pest of particular note in the Americas where it is responsible for infestation linked economic loss. Although still a significant pest in more temperate climates, the threat from this species is somewhat exceeded in many areas by Ephestia elutella.
